Anime Expo 2016: Our First Visit
by Liz Tarnof, Informer Media Group
We visited Anime Expo 2016 for the first time this year. Anime Expo is the largest anime convention in the West, boasting thousands of guests that come from near and far. In fact, AX shattered their record with over 100,000 in attendance, a 10 percent rise from last year. AX ran July 1-4. Guests had a bevy of activities and spectacles to look at, including anime/manga industry panels, the AMV competition and Masquerade, thousands of cosplayers, and more.
AX brought on board many phenomenal guests such as voice actor Chika Anzai, best known for voicing the character Reina Kousaka in Sound! Euphorium and Mary in Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash. Akiman was also in attendance who is known for his work on Street Fighter, Code Geass, and Darkstalkers. We were extra excited to see professional cosplayers Doremi and Dustbunny!
If industry professionals aren’t your thing, AX had plenty of vendors with super kawaii merchandise available, including Tasty Peach, Lolita Charm, Bellzi, Japan LA, and more! We immensely enjoyed our time spending all our hard earned Poké….er….cash.
Per AX’s official post event press release, “next year’s Anime Expo will include the addition of a full preview day to the line-up, showcasing the exhibit hall for select guests. The event is scheduled for July 1-4, 2017.”
We can’t wait!
