Fairmont Newport Beach- An Orange County Escape
by Jake Conlee
Typically, there are challenges when checking into a hotel that I have never stayed at before; but not the Fairmont Newport Beach. Checking in was very easy, and the four-diamond experience was very obvious from the second of arrival. There is access from every direction, make sure to use Google maps street view and satellite view, to ensure that guests can have an accurate vantage point. Once familiar with the entrance and exits, parking and access are much easier. I like the attentive valet service and at a property of this caliber, it is to be expected. I never once waited too long, nor did I have a problem paying for the service. The great service of the valet and bell service continues inside.
The desk agent, Joanna was very pleasant and personable. Checking in about 10pm, the hotel was still very alive, but Joanna addressed my process very quickly. I was pleased to see a wedding reception being held in the restaurant space. A beautiful setting in the atrium, surrounded by plants and soaring floor-to-ceiling windows. The room was an executive suite, with lots of space, large desk, separate seating area with queen sized sleeper bed. The hotel was aware that I was in town on business, so there was a very pleasant note and gift. Make arrangements and reach out to speak to someone beforehand and concessions will be made. This is a four diamond resort, guests should act accordingly.
The king-sized bed is massive, plush and supportive, sitting in the middle of the bedroom, like a cozy sentinel. Beyond the bed is the sliding glass door leading to the ridiculously large balcony. A small bistro set is outside, perfect for a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening with your significant other.
The cavernous bathroom has great lighting, wall to wall marble, granite countertops, huge, soaking bathtub and equally large shower. The counter space and mirrors afford enough room for two people getting ready at the same time- which we did. Plenty of plush towels and robes, and great assortment of toiletries, including tiny scope mouthwash, which I found entertaining.
The amenities found throughout the property are aplenty.
The pool area has cabanas available, and is very neatly located on the 3rd floor. The Fairmont Newport Beach welcomes guests to cool off this summer in a luxurious cabana. The Palms Pool is A perfect oasis to unwind and forget about the world around you. Reserve one of Fairmont Newport Beaches refreshed poolside cabanas with your room. From 8:00 am – 9:00 pm, guests can enjoy additional shade, comfort, and service while relaxing poolside in a large cabana, as well as an amenity package of assorted snacks, cold drinks, and more. The pool is extremely nice and recently updated, and offers poolside service of food and drink. There is also a horseshoe pit and other various activities.
The in-house restaurant, Bambu, offers meals throughout the day. Hearty breakfasts, light lunches or great (I mean GREAT) dinners can be had here. Bambú Lounge offers your favorite traditional spirits coupled with creative locally-inspired cocktails, pouring one of a kind drinks. Pair your drink with an appetizer or light meal and have the perfect evening in a contemporary setting that is casual and inviting. As always, Bambu utilizes local, seasonally inspired fresh ingredients in both our cocktails and food. Bambu features a weekday happy hour from 4 pm to 6 pm offering drink and appetizer specials. Having an opportunity to speak with the chefs and tour the well equipped and state-of-the-art kitchen, the food is all fresh, with a great deal of products being locally sourced. Ryan was our server, pleasant, well informed and extremely attentive, he made the dining experience very memorable. The Fairmont Newport Beach even harvests their own honey with hives located on premises. The honey is divine.
The Fairmont Newport Beach hides an amazing secret. For a very special reason, Bambu is home to the most magnificent, creamy yet light, delicate yet hearty New England Clam Chowder. Crispy Prosciutto sits atop a creamy base with in-house crouton, the clam to potato ratio is nothing that I have ever seen before. This is far and away the best clam chowder I have ever eaten- and I lived in Boston. The highest quality meats, seafood and fresh vegetables are featured in all of the menu offerings. Bambu is definitely a restaurant I would use as a viable dining choice, even if I wasn’t a guest of the hotel.
All in all, it was a great weekend getaway. No- it was an experience. What was supposed to be a pretty simple weekend trip, was transformed into a weekend to never forget. The location, the service, the amenities, the dining, the accommodation were as close to perfect as I could have imagined. Thank you, Fairmont Newport Beach, I will be back.
